We Are Community, We Are Drift :
A Drift Documentary For The Masses
Drift Documentary : We Are Drift
Spearheaded by drift videographer and filmmaker Luke Huxham, (DD) Drift Documentary We Are Drift is the first documentary to capture the behind-the-scenes blood, sweat, and tears – and community – of the motorsport phenomenon known as drifting.
Featuring footage of street drifting, workshop tours, business transactions, driver and crowd interviews, divisional and independent drift events, as well as of the famed Ebisu Drift Matsuri, DD : We Are Drift captures the essence of grassroots drifting from the ground up – portraying the people and community that have brought drifting to where it is today. The documentary is slated for a late 2009 release and will feature hundreds if not thousands of ideas, faces and devotees all united in the name of drift.
DD : We Are Drift has gathered support from countless large members of the automotive community throughout the world and is currently searching for investors and sponsors. In explaining DD : We Are Drift, filmmaker and Hashiriya Exports founder Luke Huxham says:
“My aim since day one has been to show a different side of drifting. Sure, I love crashes, I love the glamour, but the only thing that keeps me drifting and in the sport is my friends and the community.
“People built drifting because it starts with friends that then form a community. The cars were just there as the tools. The real drive behind drifting is how far people will push it, or how the community moves forward working together to change the style of drifting. The community has got drifting to where it is today.
“I want to watch a film and feel like I have had a hand in this sport, that in some way I have helped people to understand why I love it, why we all love it. Drifting is a sport that anyone can do. Nothing stops you from becoming the best besides your own self-determination.”
After first originating in Japan over 30 years ago, drifting now thrills, excites, and fascinates drivers and fans all over the world. Thanks to its DIY and community mentalities, it has never been more popular than it is now. Danger, glamour, work, skill – and of course, the people – all make drifting a community sport whether one is driving or watching.
DD : We Are Drift simultaneously reflects the international popularity of drifting, allows drifting fans from all over the world to unite in a creative work devoted to their favorite sport, and fulfills the need for a drifting documentary that captures the drifting community spirit.
